From Copywriter to CRO in Two Years: Pathway of Serhii Didenko

4 min read

Job advertisements often mention opportunities for growth, but rarely show what that actually looks like in practice. Here’s a real-life example: two years, two steps up the career ladder, and a separate area of responsibility that the employee manages independently!

Full Chronology

Serhii joined the NeedMyLink team in January 2024 as a copywriter. In September 2025, he became the assistant to the copywriting team lead. In April 2026, Nik Zakharchenko, our CBDO, offered him the position of CRO specialist. At first, Serhii began taking on more responsibilities in his previous role; this proved successful, and as a result, he was offered the new position.

What Does the Scope of Responsibility Include?

Two years have passed, and now Serhii independently heads an entire division that encompasses several areas of responsibility:

  • Website and conversions
  • Case studies
  • Blog articles
  • Managing reviews

At first glance, these seem like four different tasks, but in reality, they all boil down to the same thing. This is the entire set of materials a potential client encounters before reaching out to us for the first time. The website creates the first impression, case studies answer the question “have you done something like this before?”, testimonials dispel doubts, and articles demonstrate whether we’re experts in the field. Together, they determine whether a prospective client will choose us.

He redesigned the new NeedMyLink website. To handle this task, he had to assemble a team of developers and designers and build a system for collaborating with them from scratch, since the company didn’t have an established process for handling such a project.

The most challenging part wasn’t building the website itself, but first setting up the process and the team that would make it possible to carry out the project in the first place.

How Did Study and What Was Difficult?

The biggest difference from the previous position is that the focus and nature of the work have changed. In copywriting, the end result is a finished piece of text that can be submitted and evaluated right away. In this new field, the end result is a person’s behavior on the website, which is influenced not only by the text but also by the page structure, the layout of content blocks, loading speed, and what the person has seen previously. The responsibility has become broader, and feedback is slower.

There were no training courses for this new role. It took a lot of research, analyzing other people’s case studies, and a manager who offered guidance then and continues to do so now. That’s the answer to the question of how you learn here. Serhii explains that it was tough at first: a flood of new tasks, responsibilities, and information came all at once, and he had to learn all of this while continuing his current work.

The main challenge, however, wasn’t the tasks themselves, but the sudden expansion of his areas of responsibility. When you have many different areas to manage, the hardest part isn’t completing each one individually, but bringing them all together without getting confused. The transition to a new role sounds great on paper but feels uncomfortable in practice, especially during the first few months. This is a normal part of the process, not a sign that something has gone wrong.

Why is This Story Important to Us?

Over the course of two years, Serhii has gone from being a copywriter to leading a separate division (with several areas of responsibility) on his own. He achieved this because he decided to show more initiative and take on more responsibility within his role.

We don’t assign new roles in advance. But when someone demonstrates that they’re doing more than what’s required of them, expanding their scope of responsibility becomes only a matter of time. We closely monitor our employees’ potential and help them realize it to the fullest!
